Scentwork is one of the fastest growing dog sports within the UK. It is a great activity that you and your dog can gain so much from. Whilst this is a competitive sport, our sessions are designed for people who are looking for an outlet for their dog to help them to feel happy and fulfilled. Rachel is also happy to support anyone who wishes to do this competitively.

What is Scentwork? 

Scentwork is where we train our dogs to detect a specific scent and they are rewarded when they find it. Using a mixture of rewards (food and toys), we teach our dog to indicate when they find the select odour. One our dog has the skills to indicate on the odour, we gradually increase the difficulty where the scent is hidden in discreet places. The dog is then asked to search for the scent, using their natural sense of smell. As your dog progresses, they will soon be able to complete blind searches where the owner does not know where the scent is hidden. Both dog and owner need to work together using their new skills to detect the hidden scent.

Scentwork is highly suited to active dog breeds such as Spaniels, German Shepherds, Malinois, Collies and many more. This sport is suitable for all breeds of dog and is a great activity to help improve the relationship between you and your dog.

1-2-1 sessions are ideal for dogs that would struggle in a class environment and prefer to learn alone. The great thing about Scentwork is that it can be easily practiced at home and dogs are often much calmer after a session of searching! It is also a great activity that different members of the family can get involved with. 1-2-1 Sessions are only £15 for one hour meaning you can keep up with regular sessions to support with progress. Scentwork sessions are held near to Colwyn Heights. Sessions can be completed at your home for an additional fee.
